Family Meals Prevent Eating Disorders

Adolescent girls who frequently eat meals with their families are significantly less likely to use diet pills, laxatives or other extreme measures to control their weight in later years.

More than 2,500 adolescents completed two surveys, one in 1999 and one in 2004. The survey asked questions about their body mass index, eating behaviors, feelings of family connectedness, and how often they ate with their families.

Remembering Our Veterans

November 11th is an important day in both America and Canada. In each case, the day is set aside to remember fallen armed forces members who died in World War I. The day was proclaimed in 1919 by both King George V and President Woodrow Wilson, exactly one year after the war officially ended, "at the 11th hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" on 1918, when the Germans signed Armistice.

Thanksgiving Through the Years

After the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621, each of the 13 American colonies held an annual harvest festival and day of thanks. There was no set day for the holiday and it varied among the colonies.

In 1777, George Washington decreed a day of Thanksgiving to celebrate the British defeat during the Revolutionary War.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Can physical activity reduce the risk of breast cancer?

Exercise boosts the immune system and helps you to keep your weight in check. With as little as three hours of exercise per week, or about 30 minutes a day, a woman can begin to lower her risk of breast cancer.
